Spades always trump. Strategy always wins.
A classic trick-taking card game that rewards skill, memory, and bold strategy.
Callbreak — also known as Call Bridge in some regions — is a four-player trick-taking card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The game is deeply strategic: before each round begins, every player must declare (or "call") how many tricks they expect to win. Win exactly what you called or more, and you score points. Fall short, and you lose them.
What makes Callbreak especially exciting is the trump suit — Spades (♠) are always the permanent trump. This means a lowly 2 of Spades can beat the Ace of Hearts, turning every hand into a tense calculation of risk and reward. It's the kind of game where a quiet player from Davao can outthink a loud bluffer from Manila with nothing but patience and a sharp memory.
At ph39, Callbreak is available 24/7 with real Filipino players across the country. Tables fill up fast — especially on weekends and after PBA game nights when everyone's in the mood for more competition.
New to Callbreak? Here's everything you need to get started in minutes.
Four players sit at the table. The dealer distributes all 52 cards evenly — 13 cards each. Cards are dealt face-down and players look at their hand before making their call.
Starting from the player to the dealer's right, each player declares how many tricks they will win this round. The minimum call is 1 — you cannot pass or call zero.
The player to the dealer's right leads the first trick. Others must follow suit if they can. If you can't follow suit, you may play any card — including a Spade to trump the trick.
Spades (♠) are the permanent trump suit. A Spade beats any card of any other suit, regardless of rank. The highest Spade played wins the trick when Spades are in play.
Win your called number of tricks or more — you score that many points. Win extra tricks beyond your call and earn 0.1 bonus per extra trick. Fall short and lose your called number as negative points.
A standard Callbreak game runs for 5 rounds. The player with the highest cumulative score at the end of all 5 rounds wins the table and takes the prize pool.
Know your cards before you sit at the ph39 Callbreak table.
In Callbreak, cards rank from highest to lowest within each suit. Understanding the hierarchy is essential — especially when deciding whether to lead with a high card or hold it back for a critical trick later in the round.
The four suits are Spades, Hearts, Clubs, and Diamonds. Within each suit, the ranking from highest to lowest is: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Spades override all other suits when played as trump.
One key strategic note: the Ace of Spades is the single most powerful card in the entire game. Holding it gives you a guaranteed trick at any point — use it wisely, especially when you need to secure your called number in the final tricks of a round.
| Rank | Card | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1st | Ace (A) | Highest in any suit. Ace of Spades is king of all. |
| 2nd | King (K) | Second highest. Strong lead card in non-Spade suits. |
| 3rd | Queen (Q) | Reliable mid-high card. Good for securing tricks. |
| 4th | Jack (J) | Useful when opponents have exhausted higher cards. |
| 5th | 10 | Mid-range. Can win tricks in depleted suits. |
| 6th–13th | 9 down to 2 | Lower cards. Best used to dump when you can't win a trick. |
These tips separate the consistent winners from the occasional lucky players.
Before making your call, count your Spades. Each Spade is a near-guaranteed trick. Three or more Spades in hand? You can confidently call 3 or higher without much risk.
Calling too high is the most common mistake beginners make. A failed call costs you points equal to your bid. It's often smarter to call conservatively and score safely than to gamble on a high call you can't deliver.
The Ace of Spades is your insurance policy. Don't lead with it early. Save it for a critical moment when you need to guarantee a trick to meet your call in the final rounds.
Pay attention to what others called. If a player called 4 and has already won 4 tricks, they may start throwing away cards. Use that to your advantage and lead suits they're likely void in.
Lead low cards in suits where you're weak early in the round. This forces opponents to use their high cards and reveals which suits they're void in — valuable information for later tricks.
Extra tricks only give 0.1 bonus points each. Winning exactly your call is the most efficient scoring strategy. Don't waste energy chasing extra tricks when you've already secured your bid.
